Responsibility is one of the most important principles in NLP coaching. Taking responsibility for what happens in our lives is one of the hardest things to do. When things go well, we take credit for it. And why shouldn’t we? After all, we created the right conditions for something good to happen. However, when things don’t go the way we want, the tendency is to blame other circumstances and/or other people. Why is that?
In NLP, we learn that accepting 100% responsibility for our thoughts and actions is a prerequisite for transformation and lasting change. If we can understand the reason(s) why something happens in our life, then we can take control over the results. We are responsible because we are the ones who carry thoughts and emotions in our heads. Also, we carry beliefs in our subconscious (although most of the time we may not even be aware of which beliefs reside there). Since we create our thoughts, we are responsible for choosing what we think and believe. The outcomes in our life (our behavior) are based on the choices we make. For example, if you believe that you are a valuable human being, your words and actions will reflect that belief. On the other hand, if you believe you are not worth much, your behavior will also reflect a person who does not have confidence, and others will see you in the same way. This is how powerful our thoughts and beliefs are. Therefore, since we create our thoughts based on our beliefs (conscious and unconscious), aren’t we then the creators of our reality? Aren’t we responsible for what happens in our world?
What is the case, however, with limiting beliefs we are not aware of? In other words, there are limiting beliefs in our subconscious we don’t know about. This is where NLP coaching is so powerful. Through my NLP training, I discovered through various techniques what my limiting beliefs were. And I was guided to delete them from my subconscious. This is why today I am a happier and healthier (mentally, emotionally , physically) person. I would like others to experience this cleansing process. NLP coaching helps people train their mind to think in ways that can empower their thinking and doing. As a coach, I am committed to helping others understand how assuming responsibility for our actions has everything to do with being a powerful creator.
Learning to be responsible for our beliefs and thoughts gives us control over the kind of life we have. All we need to do is be willing to change habitual ways of thinking which end up limiting our true potential. Taking control of our means getting into the habit of controlling our thoughts and accepting responsibility for them. It’s all a matter of habit!
